Two pieces instead of one: a folded tray that holds the product, and a printed sleeve that slides over it. The sleeve can be re-printed on its own next season without touching the tray tooling.
Where it fits
Premium cosmetics and gift sets where the pack has to look more expensive than a single-piece carton allows — but where a rigid gift box would blow the freight budget. The tray gives a rigid-looking edge for a fraction of the weight.
What you can specify
- Dimensions — built to your product, no fixed size range.
- Board — 300–400 gsm FSC-certified folding boxboard (GC1 or SBS); the tray is usually one grade stiffer than the sleeve so the sleeve slides without dragging.
- Printing & finish — sleeve printed offset CMYK plus Pantone, with foil or spot UV; the tray is normally left unprinted or printed one colour.
- Structure — folded tray plus separate sleeve; tray can carry a die-cut board platform for the product to sit in.
What decides the price
Two dies, not one. The trade-off is that the sleeve die is the only one you re-cut when the artwork changes, which is why this structure is common on ranges that get refreshed every season.
