A single-slot watch box has one job: hold one watch so it arrives exactly as it left the bench. That means the cushion, not the box, sets the height — and the lid has to close on the cushion without pressing the crown or the crystal.
Structure
A rigid grey-board shell forms the base and lid, wrapped in wood veneer so the grain runs continuously across the joint. The lid is a separate telescoping piece, sized to close with light resistance rather than a snap, which is what makes the box usable for travel as well as presentation. Inside, a single slot is cut to the watch’s coiled diameter, and the cushion sits in that slot rather than floating in the box.
Why the cushion decides the fit
Watches vary far more in height than in width. A dive watch with a 14 mm case and a slim dress watch with a 7 mm case can share a 42 mm diameter and still need different boxes, because the cushion has to take up the difference. Send the case diameter, the case height and the lug-to-lug measurement, and the cushion is specified from those three numbers rather than from the box size.
Material and finish
Veneer is chosen for the grain and for how it takes a lacquer. A matte open-pore finish reads as wood; a high-gloss lacquer reads as lacquered wood and shows handling marks sooner. Where a brand wants a printed logo, the lid can be laser-engraved into the veneer or hot-stamped onto a small leather or metal plate set into the lid — engraving sits inside the material and wears better than a foil that sits on top of it.
Interior
The lining is usually a soft fabric over foam, in a colour that either matches the veneer or deliberately contrasts with it. The cushion itself can be fabric-covered foam or a shaped leather roll. Where the watch is presented with the buckle visible, the slot is cut so the strap sits open rather than coiled, which needs a wider base for the same case diameter.
Travel versus display
A display box can be generous; a travel box cannot. If the same box has to do both, the wall thickness comes down and the lid fit tightens, because a loose lid is what fails first in a bag. Say which use matters more at enquiry stage — the two answers produce different structures, and the second one costs slightly more.
Ordering
Standard MOQ is 3,000 pcs per design; smaller or larger quantities can be produced to order. Sampling takes 3–15 days depending on whether new tooling is needed for the slot and cushion, and mass production runs 7–20 days after you approve the sample and artwork. Send the watch dimensions, the preferred veneer and lining, and whether the box travels.
